Built in 1838 as a flour mill, the heritage-designated country inn is conveniently located twenty-five minutes from downtown Ottawa-Hull, in the Gatineau Park and the Village of Wakefield. It is the only accommodation surrounded by the natural beauty of Gatineau Park - over 30,000 acres of hills, forest, lakes and streams. A short stroll from the inn is the charming village of Wakefield, where visitors enjoy shopping for gifts, books and artwork.
The auberge offers 26 distinctive guest rooms, some of which have exposed brick walls, and/or jacuzzi, fireplace, kingsize bed and views of the cascading waterfall. The incomparable setting and serenity have made the Inn a preferred location for romantic occasions, from honeymoons to anniversaries. The inn's public areas are decorated with scenes from the rich history of the Outaouais region and the Gatineau hills. In addition to sitting areas within the guest rooms, we offer a soothing atmosphere in our piano lounge.
Dining:
The 60 seat dining room is surrounded by one-metre thick stone walls, open-hearth fireplace features stone walls, and large windows overlooking the Maclaren Falls. Local ingredients, many of them organically produced, are served using traditional French and Quebecois methods, yet presented with contemporary flair. The wine selection focuses on hard-to-find fine wines from smaller vineyards in France and other countries. The desserts include traditional treats as well as new approaches to mouth watering sweets. We are also very proud of our varied and particular selection of cheeses.
Activities:
Cyclists will be interested in exploring the trails of Gatineau Park and the National Capital Region. Beautiful scenery and traffic-free trails (and occasionally roadways) make the region an increasingly popular destination for snowshoeing, mountain biking, cycling or hiking. The cross country skiing in Gatineau Park is spectacular, and the auberge is the only accommodation on the route of the Keskinada Loppet. From May 'til October, take a journey back in time. An historic turn-of-the-century steam train regularly travels from Hull to Wakefield and will take you on a 1 1/2 hour ride along the breathtaking bends of the Gatineau River. If your love is golf or alpine skiing - we are just minutes from four area alpine ski hills, three 18-hole golf courses and an executive 9-hole course ideal for a short break from meetings.
