Halifax
Arrive into Halifax, the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. Airport transfer to your hotel.

Day 02
|
Halifax
The historic Halifax was founded because of its natural harbour and today we will take a tour of the city before driving to the most famous Canadian Lighthouse located in the dramatic setting of Peggy’s Cove. Mid-afternoon we return to Halifax to Pier 21, the entry point for many Canadian immigrants and now a National Historic site.

Day 03
|
Halifax (Annapolis Valley)
Canada’s first mainland settlements by the French created the legendary “Acadia”. Longfellow immortalized the expulsion of the Acadians by the British colonial authorities in his epic-poem ”Evangeline”; visits to Grand Pre and Port Royal Historic sites offers a glimpse into that era. Still more awaits at Lunenberg, home of the famous `Bluenose’ and the Fisheries Museum.

Day 04
|
Halifax - Cheticamp
After crossing the Canso Causeway that links mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island we hug the shores of Bas D’or Lake as we make our way to the Alexander Graham bell Museum. Cheticamp, a fishing village founded by the Acadians, is our overnight stop. It is here we will enjoy a traditional Acadian Dinner that is included in our itinerary.

Day 05

Cheticamp Sydney / Cabot Trail
Our journey today is devoted to the breath-taking views around the Cabot Trail through Cape Breton Island National Park before arriving into the city of Sydney.

Day 06
|
Sydney (Louisbourg)
You will feel as if you have time-traveled to the 17th Century as you experience the Fortress of Louisbourg, the supposedly impregnable French town and fortress destroyed by the English. This is the largest historical, animated re-construction in North America.

Day 07
|
Sydney - Cornerbrook
We sail the seas on a 5-hour ferry ride to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. The dramatic scenery and amazing history of this maritime Province awaits us.

Day 08
|
Cornerbrook Port aux Choix
Gros Morne National park, a world heritage site is our first destination today. You will marvel at the geographical oddities and sweeping ocean vistas before visiting the Port aux Choix Historic Site, formerly a Maritime Archaic Native Village and burial ground.

Day 09
|
Port aux Choix L’Anse au Clair
A ferry ride takes us first to Blanc Sablon, Quebec, then into Labrador. Red bay, a Basque Whaling Centre is considered to be the first industrial complex in North America. Today this picturesque setting is another world heritage site. Icebergs drifting down from the northern ice pack are sometimes seen floating south through the Strait of Belle Isle.

Day 10
|
L’Anse au Clair St. Anthony
Back on the main island we drive past Tuckamore and the stunted forests of the Northern Peninsula on the way to L’anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. Here you will see the faithful reconstruction of the first settlement of the Vikings founded around 1,000AD, and later this evening we will thrill to the Great Viking Feast that includes entertainment as well as our dinner.

Day 11
|
St. Anthony Hawkes Bay
The animators at the Norstead Viking Village depict the life-style and crafts prevalent on this bleak shore 1,000 years ago. Later we will visit the Eco-Museum and learn the importance of the Sealing Industry to Newfoundland’s economy

Day 12
|
Hawkes Bay Grand Falls
The power of the sea is vividly demonstrated at arches Provincial Park. At Grand Falls we visit the Mary March Museum to hear about the extinct Beothuck Natives, the original ”Red Indians”. Another stop will be at the Salmonid Museum.

Day 13
|
Grand Falls - Gander
Today’s journey follows the `Road to the Isles’ to the old out port fishing village of Twillingate. Two of the highlights are the Prime Berth Fishing Heritage centre and an included lunch with entertainment. Make sure to have your camera ready when we visit the Long Point Lighthouse overlooking the famed ‘Iceberg Alley’

Day 14
|
Gander St. John’s
As we drive towards the provincial capital, St. John’s, we will stop at Terra Nova National Park Interpretive Centre for a fascinating glimpse into the marine environment that surrounds the area. Our onward journey will take us through villages with the lovely names of Heart’s Delight and Heart’s Desire finally arriving at Heart’s Content and the Cable Museum to learn about the first Trans-Atlantic Telegraph cable.

Day 15
|
St. John’s
Our city tour includes historic sites as well as a stop at Cape Spear, the most easterly point of North America. This afternoon a boat excursion from Witless Bay allows us to view Puffins and hopefully some of the various species of whales that feed and frolic in these waters. This evening, join with your Tour Director and traveling companions for a Farewell Dinner to exchange stories and recap the adventure and experience of a memorable and thorough exploration of Eastern and Atlantic Canada.
